A Jim Wells County Constable was named the 2016 Constable of the Year by the South Texas Justice of the Peace and Constables Association (JPCA).

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, Precinct 5 Constable Robert Vasquez was awarded the prestigious honor out of more than 1,500 Texas constables at the 24th annual Educational Conference in South Padre Island. 

Vasquez served his community and country before he graduate from high school. He joined the United States Air Force before graduating in the delayed entry program. Thirty days after graduation in 1981, Vasquez began his career as a Law Enforcement Specialist. For the next 10 years, he served and trained as a patrolman, armorer, desk sergeant, and patrol trainer to name just a few.

Vasquez is a veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was Honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1991.

His law enforcement experience includes working with Bishop Police Department, Nueces, Kleberg and JWC County Sheriff's Departments.
