San Diego, Texas - Lydia Perez Garza was born on January 7, 1923, to Juvencio Cantu (Mencho) Perez and Juanita Garcia Perez. Lydia passed her soul to the Lord on October 22, 2016. Granny, as she was affectionately called by practically everyone who knew her, graduated from San Diego High School at the age of 17 in 1940. She then attended Business College in San Antonio. This education served her well in later years. Upon her return to San Diego she re-united with the love of her life, Amado Martinez Garza, Jr., and were married on July 15, 1942. Granny and Amado worked side by side which culminated in successful business ventures including owners/operators of the San Diego Meat Market, ranching and farming enterprises, as well as ventures into banking. As such, Amado served on the Board of Directors of the First State Bank of San Diego due to his being a major stockholder. Lydia and Amado were lifelong partners in business as well as in marriage until his death on October 26, 1998. Following his death Lydia was elected to also serve on the Board of Directors of the First Bank of San Diego where she served with distinction until health issues forced her retirement. Lydia was preceded in ascension to their Heavenly Father by her husband, Amado M. Garza, Jr.; her parents Juvencio Sr. and Juanita Perez; her brother Juvencio Cantu (Menchito) Perez Jr. She is survived by her sister Consuelo (Jose) Reyes of Pensacola, Florida; daughter Virginia Lydia (Ricardo) Everett of Austin, Tx.; her son Edmundo Luis (Connie) Garza of San Diego, Tx. Grandchildren: Rick (Michelle) Everett; Rebecca Everett (Sam) Degelia; Edmundo Luis(Monica) Garza, Jr.; Edna L. (Eloy) Gonzalez-Sanchez; Eduardo L. Garza; Eden Lee (Carlos) Hernandez-Garza. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, as well as great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 5 p.m - 9 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home - San Diego with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego. Burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery # 2 in San Diego. Mauro P.
