The Alice High School marching band couldn't have asked for a better end to the 2016 competition season.

Alice received scores of "straight 1s" to win the sweepstakes at the Region XIV Marching Contest Saturday at Wildcats Stadium in Calallen.

Since it's a bye year for Class 5A schools, it means Alice isn't moving on to state competition.

Nonetheless, it was a successful season for the Alice band. Just a week ago, Alice was named the overall grand champion and first place in Class 5A at the Bay Area Marching Contest in Calallen. Alice competed in the Crossroads Marching Festival in Robstown and placed second overall and second in Class 5A.

The Alice band began the marching contest season last week by placing third out of 21 bands at the Gregory-Portland Tournament of Bands. At the Gregory-Portland contest, Alice's drum majors and color guard also won honors.
