Duval County - A woman was pronounced dead at the the scene of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 44 six miles west of San Diego Sunday at approximately 4 p.m.
Irasema Salazar-Hernandez, 27, a resident of Corpus Christi was ejected from the vehicle, according to Department of Public Safety Trooper Nathan Brandley.
According to sources at the scene, two children were also ejected from the vehicle.
Eight people were traveling east in a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe when the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed the roadway to left of State Highway 44, and overturned multiple times in the bar ditch, Brandley stated.
Firefighters used the jaws of life to remove the male driver and two other passengers, according to sources.
The driver of the Tahoe, a third adult passenger and three children were transported to Christus Spohn in Alice with serious injuries. An 11-month old and a two-year old baby were transported by Halo Flight to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi in critical condition.
San Diego and Freer Fire Department, and San Diego EMS and Air Med assisted in the accident.
