Deputy Joe Martinez raised his right hand on July 20 and swore to serve and protect the residents of Duval County as a deputy.

Duval County Sheriff Romeo Ramirez and Chief Deputy Jose Martinez III welcomed Martinez into the department.

Martinez served at Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department for approximately 16 years.

“With all his experience, he will be very knowledgeable and helpful to the rest of my staff,” said Ramirez.

Deputy Martinez graduated from the academy in 2001. With the JWC jail, he was a patrol deputy, a K9 handler, he went to sniper school and captain of the patrol unit.
