Kristine Marie Beatriz Pena daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph and Rosie Pena is this weeks' Teen of the Week.
Educational or Future Plans: My educational plans for the future will most likely consist of me taking classes locally at Coastal Bend College first to acquire the majority of my basics before transferring over to Texas A&M University – Kingsville. From there I will begin taking courses to pursue a degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine, once I graduate with a Bachelor’s I will then transfer once more and pursue a Master’s/Ph.D. at either Texas A&M University College Station or Texas Tech University. I also desire to minor in Business to open up my own clinic once my career has taken off.
Clubs and Officer Positions: Throughout my early high school years I was involved in many clubs such as Band, Tennis, Student council, Environmental Club, Spanish Club, National Honors Society, Junior Class and FFA. I am currently still a member of the Alice High School Band, a two year member in the National Honors Society, and as a sophomore I acquired the Reporter position in FFA, then the position of Secretary my junior year leading up to currently holding the position of a proud Vice President.
Accomplishments/Honors: 10 year/Senior Award for altar serving at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 2 year Area Champion Wool Judger, Star Chapter Farmer for FFA, Outstanding Girl Altar Server, Scored a 1 on Solo & Ensemble freshmen through senior year, Have been a member of the Honors Band freshmen through senior year, Member of the National Honor Society junior and senior year, and 6 year Honors Band Member
What was the best advice you ever received? Who gave you the advice? The best advice I have ever received happens to be from my mother the first day of my freshman year. “Enjoy your carefree time as a youth, for time will soar past you in the blink of an eye leaving you wondering where has the time all gone” She told me. I agree that I have had a lot of fun the recent four years with my class and my friends, as I prepare myself for my senior year to come to a close with graduation, I look back on my mother’s words and really do wonder where has all the time gone? I remember when I would sometimes think “Can I just graduate already!?” and now looking back, I almost wish I could go back in time to enjoy certain exciting moments in my life that have already surpassed me. But as graduation peeks from around the corner I couldn’t be more excited and prepared to step into the next big chapter in my life.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In the next five years I see myself working vigorously on my educational path, prepping for my transfer to Texas A&M University – Kingsville. I see myself in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine working towards my Master’s Degree at Texas A&M University - College Station or Texas Tech University with a steady job. I see my family with my back supporting me through the ups and downs along my journey to success.
If you could change anything about this world, what would it be and why? I would change the way society holds expectations above everyone and the way personal lifestyles and beliefs are aggressively bashed. Society holds these unreal expectations above both men and women, in my personal opinion women have it extensively bad being expected to be pretty, have a nice body, be fit, intelligent, and much more. On top of that one of the most common negative things I see happen is mostly on social media, people are mocked and/or verbally abused for their opinions if it’s not what someone deems they like or prefer. Everyone is different with different opinions and different outlooks on certain subjects, it’s a shame that modern society has morphed into something so unreal.
If you could invite 3 people to dinner (other than relatives), who would they be and why? My first choice would have to be someone with a great sense of humor to make dinner a laugh to remember, having said that I would love to invite Mr. Cian Twomey, an internet sensation that makes me laugh on the daily. My second choice would thrill me death if he was still alive to grace me with his presence is the ever famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, his piano music has always captivated my heart and I would love to go on about where he got his ideas and motivation to create such beautiful pieces of musical art. It would be such an honor to invite him and I’m most sure it would give dinner the most sophisticated feeling. My third and last invitation would go to our 16th President Mr. Abraham Lincoln, Out of the many Presidents the United States of American has had over the years, Mr. Lincoln caught my attention right off the bat with his leading the nation through the Civil War and his abolishment of slavery. There are many questions I would love to have asked him over dinner and I’m sure great advice would have come from him.
