Jeff Davis (J.D.) Talbert, Jr. of Alice, Texas passed away Friday, May 13, 2016 at the age of 86. He is survived by one daughter, Joline (Paul) Huddleston of Mission, two sons, Ronnie Talbert of Alice and Dave (Christie) Talbert of Yoakum; and 5 grandchildren, Bob Driver, III of San Marcos, Jade Driver of San Antonio, Bradley Talbert of College Station, Gage Talbert of Austin, and Mason Talbert of Yoakum. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Delta Mae and daughter, Brenda Kay. He has been an active member of the Church of Christ all of his adult life, and was currently a member of the Morningside Drive Church of Christ.
J.D. was born on May 19, 1929 to Jeff and Gladys Talbert. After graduating from William Adams High School in 1951, he married Delta Mae Wilks of Alice. He began working for Continental Oil Company at age 18 as a truck driver, and then later acquired the Conoco distributorship. He began Talbert Oil Company in 1970, providing petroleum products and services to south Texas customers for more than three decades.
His passion was antique cars, restoring and owning during his lifetime such classics as the Model T, Model A and 46 Ford. In his retirement he could be found regularly at his favorite Alice eating establishments, Nortex Bakery and Whataburger.
The family would like to thank Shirley Farris, Lee Gross and Mae Espinosa for their gracious and tender care in his final years.
Family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Holmgreen Mortuary.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel, 2061 E. Main in Alice, Texas. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. the same day at Alice Cemetery in Alice, Texas.
