Ben Salinas son of Ben and Cassandra Salinas is this weeks Teen of the Week.
Educational or Future Plans: I plan to attend either Texas State or the University of the Incarnate Ward to study political science and pre-law. After I graduate I plan on attending law school to further my education and prepare for my future career as a politician.
Clubs and Officer Positions: Member of National Honor Society, Yearbook, International Thespian Society. Officer of Drama Club as their Arts Administrator.
Accomplishments/Honors: I received a division 1 on my solo & ensemble performance my freshman and sophomore year. My sophomore year I was inducted into the National Honor Society and a year later I was inducted into the International Thespian Society. My junior year of high school at our One Act Play competition I received an award for being the “best techie” from our school’s OAP team.
What was the best advice you ever received? Who gave you the advice?: “You can’t plant wheat and expect corn” by Dr. Eberhard. What he meant was you cannot achieve something great if you’re not willing to put in a considerable amount of effort. For example, if you’re lazy and put no effort into something then the outcome or product will not be significant.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself attending law school to further my education to prepare to make a name for myself in national politics.
If you could change anything in this world, what would it be and why? I would spread real democracy to every nation in the world because everyone deserves a voice and are entitled to basic human rights.
If you could invite 3 people to dinner who would they be and why? The first person who I would invite would be Hillary Clinton because she has been a life-long advocate for equality for both men and women. She has spent her life fighting for people who didn’t have a voice and she has been a prominent figure for feminism. The second person I would invite to dinner would be the last president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev. I would like to have dinner with Gorbachev because he inspired me when he fought against dangerous opposition to bring freedom for his people through reforms within the Soviet Union. The final person I would like to have dinner with would be Steve Jobs because his work with Apple sparked my interest with technology. As a young college student Steve Jobs went against all odds and created one of the most successful corporations in history.
My favorite food is pizza, my favorite book is Hardball by Chris Mathews, my favorite movie is the entire Star Wars saga. My favorite town in Texas would be Austin because it’s the capital of our state and such a beautiful city. I would like to vacation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil because the city is amazing and there’s so many things that you can do.
