A 24-year-old California man was arrested Thursday at approximately 10 a.m. with $152,540 hidden in his vehicle, police said.

Jiovany Rincon was traveling south on North Highway 281 in a blue 2010 Nissan Altima.

A Jim Wells/Alice Task Force officer conducted a routine traffic stop near County Road 120 in the Tecolote area. The officer made contact with Rincon who was nervous and deceptive, police said.

According to officials, Rincon told the officer he was traveling to Mexico to pick up his wife.

During the roadside interview, the officer received consent to search the vehicle and uncovered several bundles of cash wrapped in cellophane underneath the front dashboard and panel doors.

With the assistance from Jim Wells County deputies, Rincon was arrested and transported to the Jim Wells County jail.

He was charged with money laundering.

As of Thursday evening, Rincon remained in county jail with no bond.
