Alice City Council met for about three hours behind closed doors on Thursday as they interviewed applicants for the interim city manager's position.

Of the four applicants, three were interviewed. Those interviewed included Roel Valadez, a former Alice city manager for 20 years, John Valls and Andy Joslin, a home health marketer. The fourth applicant Bill McCumber declined the interview.

Once back in session, the council voted unanimously to authorize background checks on Valadez and Joslin. Both could go through a second phase of interviews.

"Depending on background checks will determine where we go from here," Councilman Pete Beltran said.
