Jean Mendoza, Dispatcher

Number of years with Alice Police Department

I have worked for the Alice PD as a dispatcher for approximately three years.

Number of years of experience total. Where?

Before working with the Alice PD I worked with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office as a jailer.

What made you want to be in law enforcement?

I originally wanted to go to school to become a police officer like my father and sister however, I wanted to try being a dispatcher. I wanted to see what dispatching was all about and I love what I do.

Does your family support your career choice?

Yes, my family supports me 100 percent. Having other members in law enforcement helps my family understand the work hours and how I help the community.

What's the most rewarding part of your job?

I feel the rewarding part of my job is helping the citizens of Alice with their immediate problems and their needs.

What do you believe is the hardest part of your job? Why?

The hardest part of my job is hearing children cry when their parents are arguing or their mother is getting assaulted. As a mother its especially hard when I know children have been assaulted. Another hard part of my job is working holidays and not being with my daughter and my family.
