A routine traffic stop was conducted on Wednesday at the intersection of Perez and Gravis Street in San Diego when Duval County deputies noticed the passenger was not wearing his seat belt.

According to Lt. Alan Gonzalez with the Duval County Sheriff's Office, as officers approached the tan Chevy truck the two occupants were seen moving around as if they were hiding something.

When officers made contact with the driver, Javier Gonzalez, and the passenger, Rene Morin, there was a strong smell of burned marijuana as well as marijuana in plain view.

Gonzalez and Morin were detained at the scene and transported to the Duval County jail.

An inventory search of the vehicle was conducted.

Officers located marijuana between the seats of the vehicle as well as open alcoholic beverages, Gonzalez stated.

Also found in the vehicle was drug paraphernalia such as sandwich bags and a grinder.

Gonzalez and Morin are still in the Duval County jail as of Friday morning.

The two men were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
