Salazar Elementary School held their annual spelling bee on Thursday, Jan. 14 at the Roadrunner Library.
Lucas Walker, fourth grade student, is the 2016 Spelling Bee Champion.
Darren Salinas, third grade, is the runner-up.
Forty-five students participated and completed nine rounds.
The winning words for Walker were swollen and whiff.
Walker will represent Salazar Elementary at the South Texas Regional Spelling Bee in Corpus Christi on Feb. 20.
This will be Walker's third year as Salazar's representative at the regional spelling bee.
