The senior citizens at the Robstown Community Center have elected their Council Officers for the 2016 year. The newly elected officers are as follows: Araceli Flores, President; Rosario Garcia, Vice President; Virginia Gallegos, Secretary and Treasurer; Clara Trevino, Sgt at Arms; and Ofelia Flores, Sgt at Arms.

This site, located at 415 Mainer Rd, serves the senior citizens of Nueces County that live around Robstown. For anyone who lives in other rural areas around Nueces Co, there are other satellite sites in Agua Dulce, Banquete, Bishop and Driscoll.

Assistant Director of Community Services Marcy Santos had this to say, “The Council is responsible for arranging fundraisers that we do such as bingo night with concessions to sell food and drinks. We usually partner with the satellite centers to raise funds together.” The operational costs of running the Senior Center are provided by Nueces County, whereas the funds for activities, games, outings and trips come from the money raised by the seniors themselves. “The Council also plans fundraisers and activities, helps with recruitment and getting support for the center and it's seniors.” said Santos.

Some of the activities available to seniors include shopping, playing games like dominos or pool, educational and health presentations, dinners, outings and trips. Santos said, “Trips can be either a shopping trip to the mall or a getaway to somewhere further such as San Antonio, Texas.”

The council and staff would like to recruit more members from the community. “We serve about 45-50 people a day and would like to get more so that they can get in and stay active and spend time with people their age,” said Santos.
