Hidden Bird Life in the Coastal Marshes

The habitats of the coastal areas along the Gulf of Mexico are diverse with wildlife, and bird species in particular are very abundant. From the ever-present gulls to the much less noticed wrens, the ancient looking Brown Pelican and the tall and stately Great Blue Heron. Just a bit further inland lives a whole different group of birds such as the raptors and songbirds. This huge species diversity is due to the several “layers” of habitat types that starts with the ocean at the Gulf and moves inland from there.

Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards more than $466k to Texas

TENNESSE - On Thursday, May 12, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation announced the award of more than $466,000 in literacy grants to Texas nonprofit organizations, libraries and schools. The funds are part of nearly $8.2 million awarded throughout the 47 states in which Dollar General operates to support adult, family and summer literacy programs.

BBB Scam Alert: 30% of employment scams occur in summer

The beginning of summer brings an influx of job-seeking students looking to capitalize on their free time by earning money over their three-month break. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, most of these students find employment in the accommodations and food service industry, with a little over half (54 percent) of 16- to 24-year-olds employed in July 2021, an 8 percent increase from 2020 levels. Unfortunately, con artists are well-versed in creating job postings that seem legitimate and are often tailored to appeal to first-time workers and students.
