Spiders of Our Area

This past week, I taught Summer Bird Camp at Gulf Coast Bird Observatory. But honestly, with all of the spider-loving kids in the group, it should’ve been called Summer Spider Camp. Even the children who started out as arachnophobes were asking to hold spiders by the end of the week. Every time we went outside, we found tons of awesome spiders to look at. It got me thinking about all of the arachnids in our area.

CBC Alice partners with HALO-Flight EMS Academy to offer EMT course

Coastal Bend College’s Alice location, in partnership with HALO-Flight EMS Academy, is now accepting applications for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program. Applications will be accepted through July 5th and the course will begin Monday, July 18. Interested applicants will need to complete a physical and submit Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exam scores. A background check and immunization records are also required.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar Releases Texas Broadband Plan

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today released his agency’s Texas Broadband Plan to support the expansion of broadband access for underserved and unserved Texans. The Comptroller’s Broadband Development Office (BDO) crafted the plan building upon the feedback that Hegar and BDO staff collected from Texans through 12 public town halls, 60 virtual regional roundtable discussions and more than 16,000 survey responses.
