Alice ISD gives presentation at 2022 Summer Leadership Institute

Alice ISD presented, “Closing the Gap: Promoting Mental Health and Academic Success in the Classroom” at the 2022 Summer Leadership Institute in San Antonio Thursday, June 16. The presentation centered on how the district has addressed mental health challenges and additional stressors in the classroom, and alternative learning styles over the past two years. Presenting for Alice ISD were Gracie Garcia, Executive Director for Teaching and Learning; Tracy Johnson, Director of Special Program and Student Support Services; Nadia Moreno, Director of School Climate Transformation; and Erika Vasquez, Executive Director of Leadership and School Improvement.

10,000-mile journey to the Arctic Ocean

Alice High School 1979 graduate, Michael Gallegos, and his 1998 Heritage Softtail Classic, Sally, will spend six weeks of the summer traveling to the Arctic Ocean. The 61-year-old has previously attempted this ride twice, but only made it to the Arctic Circle, which is only 200 miles away from the ocean. This year, a riding buddy, Roger Bauer will accompany Gallegos on the estimated 10,000-mile journey.
