A World for Children in Corpus Christi started their annual Back to School Drive with six dropoff locations throughout South Texas including one in Alice. Supplies like notebooks, pens, pencils, colors, paper, and more are needed to help children in foster care start another school year.

Alice Independent School District’s elementary school playgrounds are undergoing a major upgrade over the next few weeks. Each playground’s old equipment is being removed and new playground sets are going up.

SAN DIEGO - Firefighters from three area fire department were called to a home on County Road 303 for a fire Wednesday evening. When firefighters arrived flames consumed the back of the home.

The Alice Rotary Club held their first regular meeting Wednesday with guest speakers from the City of Alice. Arlene Medrano, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Alice, and Jose Pereida, City of Alice Director of Intergovernmental Relations, spoke about themselves and the different things the city is working on.

The Alice Independent School District’s administration team recently attended the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) Summer Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. .

The animals who are housed at the Alice Animal Control will have some relief in the Texas summer heat thanks to some donations from the community. Neighbors Offering Animals Hope (N.O.A.H.), Sandy Jolson Harrel and Ray Miller donated commercial fans to keep the animals comfortable.

Walking on the trails at Gulf coast Bird Observatory the other day, I happened to see a stunningly brilliant insect on a flower. It was a metallic green color, so shiny it looked like a jewel. After snapping a few out-of-focus pictures, I headed inside to try to identify it.
