Ida retired from list of hurricane names

There will never again be another Hurricane Ida. The World Meteorological Organization hurricane committee has retired Ida from its rotating list of Atlantic storm names because of the death and destruction caused by the Category 4 hurricane in 2021.

The next release of detailed data about U.S. residents from the 2020 census will be postponed until next year because the U.S. Census Bureau said Wednesday that it needs more time to crunch the numbers, including implementing a controversial method used to protect participants’ identities.

Reptiles are in trouble: In fact, over 21% of reptile species are threatened with extinction worldwide, according to a first-of-its-kind global assessment of more than 10,000 species. The findings show that some reptiles, including many species of crocodiles and turtles, require urgent conservation efforts to prevent their extinction.

ALICE - Michael Andrew Lopez, 39, of Alice passed away on April 18, 2022. He was born in Alice on February 25, 1983. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, friend, and godfather. Michael enjoyed reading, watching documentaries, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and his nephews at their sporting events. As the eldest of all his siblings, Michael was a protector in nature of those he loved. He was a kind soul to all he met and was loved by so many. Michael was an active member of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Alice and participated in multiple lay retreats including ACTS, Cursillo, and F.L.A.M.E.
