Nesting season is in full swing here on the Gulf Coast! This season, I have joined Gulf Coast Bird Observatory’s coastal biologist Taylor Bennett in monitoring Matagorda Beach and Sargent Beach for nesting Wilson’s Plovers and least terns. During a recent survey of Colorado River Mouth Flats along Matagorda Beach, Taylor and I encountered another amazing bird -a reddish egret!

Stuttering Foundation Celebrates National Stuttering Awareness Week this month

Memphis, Tenn. — Today marks the beginning of National Stuttering Awareness Week, a weeklong spotlight on the condition affecting almost 80 million people worldwide. During this year’s observance, the world’s oldest and largest Foundation dedicated to helping those who stutter is celebrating its 75th anniversary of providing help and hope for those who stutter and their families.

The alarm bell is sounding for America’s wildlife. Once common, monarch butterflies have declined to the point where they are considered at real risk of extinction. We’ve lost nearly three billion birds that once filled our skies. And more than one-third of America’s wildlife are facing an elevated risk of extinction.
