William Adams Middle School Summer ACE students recently learned about fishing. Students went to Lake Corpus Christi where they met with a Park Ranger who educated them on fishing and water safety.

Elena G. Juarez was born on December 15, 1948, in Alice, Texas to Federico and Irene R.
Jose “Leandro” Martinez passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021 at Spohn Hospital surrounded by family. Leandro was born February 10, 1937 in Tienditas, Texas to Manuel and Concepcion Martinez. He was a graduate from San Diego High School in 1956. Leandro worked for TXDOT for 34 years in Hebbronville, Corpus Christi, and retired from Alice as a maintenance supervisor. Leandro served 25 years as a board member of the U.S. (FDA) Soil Conservation service and an agriculture mentor. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholica Church and the Knights of Columbus of St. Joseph, serving from State Chairman, District Deputy, Grand Knight, and other offices. Leandro’s passion was ranching and farming in Duval and Jim Wells counties. He was a cowboy, always wearing his hat and boots. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his cousins, friends, and family, always sharing jokes and singing “Oh My Popo” with the kids. He loved traveling with motorcycle groups and later with RV friends. He always made time for coffee with the guys and catching up on the news.
Nola Renee Morales was taken from us at the age of 36 years to be with the Lord on Friday, July 1, 2022. She was born in Alice, Texas on April 15, 1986 to her parents, Ernesto Lee “Ernie” and Edna Morales. In 2003 she was crowned Miss Pan De Campo, the Major for the San Diego Drill Team, and an all-around athlete, playing golf, volleyball and softball. Nola graduated with honors from San Diego High School, class of 2004, she was a member of the NHS and competed in UIL. She enjoyed life to its fullness and loved dancing, karaoke, and loved joking around, doing pranks and having fun. Nola was a free spirit, vibrant, carefree, independent, strong, caring, and trusting person. Her children were everything to her...her world...and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Nola was the person who shed light on the family during gatherings, you just knew she was there! Her laugh was contagious, you couldn’t help but laugh with her, and our family will never be the same without her. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and aunt who will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Alfonso Trevino, Alice, Texas 91 years of age passed away July 3rd, 2022, at DHR hospital in Edinburg, Texas. He was born December 2, 1930, in Alice, Texas. Alfonso was a graduate of Alice High School and served as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. In 1965, he was B.A. graduate of Texas A&I University and in 1978 Masters graduate of Pan American University. Alfonso retired from the Texas State Commission for the blind. He later worked as the Jim Wells County Welfare Director, Executive Director to the City of Alice Housing Authority. He was a store owner and enjoyed being an insurance salesman. He also served as the Jim Wells County Democratic Chairman. Alfonso was an avid golfer, hunter, and member of the Knights of Columbus.
On June 8, 2022 Petra ‘Pat’ Garcia Martinez was called home to reunite with her loved ones. She was born August 29, 1933, she was 88 years old.
Duke Softball standout, Dominique Salinas, will be in Alice on July 30 and 31 to host a softball camp. She will have two session and spots are limited.
Four of the Alice High School’s Lady Coyotes were recently selected for the Sports Writers Association All-State Teams. Pitcher Ava Hernandez made to the third team.
