Alice Cross Country runners head to state

Three cross country runners from the Alice High School are headed to state after placing in the top 10 at the Region IV meet at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi Monday morning. In the girls’ run, Kenli Atwood was fourth and Vicky Diaz was seventh. Issac Wright qualified to state by finishing sixth in the boys’ run.

Church of the Overcomer celebrates 5th anniversary

The Church of the Overcomer celebrated their fifth anniversary as a church in Alice on Sunday, Oct. 23. The church had a special sermon for the occasion and held a baptism ceremony later that day. The church is a bible-based church located at 3310 E. Main Street. For more information on the Church find them on Facebook.

San Diego Homecoming King, Queen

SAN DIEGO - San Diego Vaqueros held their homecoming ceremonies on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, the town of San Diego lined the street for the annual parade that led to the high school sports complex for the community pep-rally and burning of the SD and 2023.

Javier “Javy” Jesus Casas

Javier “Javy” Jesus Casas, 46 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 22, 2022. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 3, 1976 to his parents, Rudy and Ann Casas. He was a graduate of Freer High School class of 1994 and a graduate of Texas A & M University Kingsville, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Natural Gas Engineering. Javy was formerly employed with his father and brother, Rene at Freer Iron Works and was presently co-owner of STX Process Equipment, Ace Hardware of Zapata and Lonesome Creek RV Resort. He and his wife Lori are also in the process of opening the newest Ace Hardware store in Laredo, TX. Javy was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle who was loved by everyone and will be sadly missed by all his family. He was an avid Aggie fan, and he had a love for spending time at his family ranch with his sons and family. Javy was very active with his sons and attended all their sports activities. Javy also enjoyed hunting, making Pan de Campo and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his Grandmother Gertrude Agnew, Grandfather James Agnew and Step-Grandmother Agnes Agnew, Grandparents Rafael and Antonia
