James “Doyle” (J.D.) Light passed away peacefully on January 10, 2016. Doyle was born June 11, 1927 to Thermon (O.T.) and Violet (Homesley) Light in Eola, Concho County, Texas.
Doyle grew up in San Angelo and moved to Alice in 1944. Here, he met and married the love of his life, Ida Mae Adams on March 20, 1948. He spent his life-long career in the oilfield as a roughneck, vacuum truck driver for Alice Specialty Company and a salesman for Mud Products of Kingsville.
Doyle was a hard-working man that always provided for his family, and set a wonderful example of a husband and father. Papaw / Big Papaw was always a favorite with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to tease, so smiles and laughter were a part of the memories now treasured. Until the end, he was thankful and thoughtful to those around him.
Doyle is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ida Mae; children James (Sue) Light Jr. of Corpus Christi, Beverly (David) Henneke of Alice, and Richard (Connie) Light of McKinney; grandchildren Ross (Angela) Light, Ginny Pittman, Christie Belcher, Carrie (Garrick) Mabrito and Aleisha Light; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Howard Bechthold and sisters-in-law Berniece Foster, Doris Brandt, and Ruth Blundell and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Doris Bechthold.
Family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Holmgreen Mortuary. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
