There was a time not long ago that Beeville was a measuring stick of sorts for the Alice Coyote soccer program.
Every season, the Coyotes would begin their season against the Trojans, who were considered an area soccer powerhouse.
That was far from the case Friday night. The roles were reversed in the early-season match as the Coyotes dominated the Trojans and won big, 4-1.
Jordy Esquivel scored twice for the Coyotes. He scored on a penalty kick in the 18th minute. He scored his second goal in the 39th minute. Senior Sergio Garcia scored the Coyotes' other two goals. Garcia found the net in the 58th minute and again in the 69th.
Esquivel and Garcia were both credited with assists. Goalkeeper Morris Molina had three saves.
The Coyotes took the field for the first time this season Tuesday and beat Alice's soccer alumni team. It was the first time the varsity squad had beaten the alumni team since the game began in 2011.
