High School youth to be awarded scholarships or a trip to Washington D.C.
It is time for high school students to submit applications for the Nueces Electric Cooperatives Ramiro De La Paz Scholarship program and the highly anticipated FREE Washington D.C. Youth Tour Leadership Program trip. Nueces Electric Cooperative is honored to be able to provide these programs to our communities and we hope students will take advantage of these opportunities. To be eligible to enter either program, student must be a dependent or have a legal guardian who is Nueces Electric Cooperative or NEC Retail Member.
Going on its 12th year, 68 area students have received Ramiro de La Paz educational scholarships. For 2016, the Co-op has increased the number of awards from six awards to 12 awards. All scholarship applications are required to be postmarked on or before Feb. 12, 2016.
For 27 years, co-ops across the county have been sending students to Washington D.C for the annual Youth Tour Leadership Program. Four lucky youth, will join approximately 150 other Texas delegates as they travel to Austin, TX and Washington, D.C.. Winners receive the all-expense paid trip, spending money, and shirts to wear each day they are on the trip. This unique adventure gives students the opportunity to watch history come alive with VIP tours of monuments. Delegates end the week with a celebration aboard a Potomac River Boat. To enter, students must complete an entry form and write a short 300-500 word essay. The deadline for Youth Leadership applications is Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.

Ramiro De La Paz Scholarship: Current High School Seniors are eligible to apply for this multi-year scholarship. Two primary scholarships of $4,000 are awarded and eight additional single semester scholarships of $1,000 are also awarded. Entry deadline is Feb. 12, 2016.
Washington, D.C. Youth Tour: Current Sophomores and Seniors are invited to enter a short essay contest (300-500 words) to win a VIP, all expense paid trip to Washington D.C.. The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and the Texas Electric Cooperatives send 150+ students from Texas to Washington each year to meet with legislators and take behind the scenes tours of monuments and museums. Students receive airfare, hotel, ground transportation, food and spending money from Nueces Electric Cooperative. Entry deadline is January 29, 2016.
