Six Premont Independent School District students road with officers to the Walmart Kingsville to Christmas shop.
The school children were paired with a Premont police officer for Shop with a Cop sponsored by De Los Ninos and the Premont Police Department.
“I hope to make this an annual thing,” said Police Chief Billy Hack. "My hope is that next year we can double the participants, 12 students."
Each child received $150 to spend as they wished on Christmas gifts while personally attended to by an officer.
The kids purchased several toys, outfits, shoes and other basic items they needed.
Hack's stated the was one child who was apprehensive about the program, but after some explanation he lit up with excitement.
"Shop with a Cop is a great social program where officers can build a stronger relationship with families," Hack's said. "Christmas is about the children."
The children were selected through the district.
