Lori A. Flores, an alumna of Alice High School and prize-winning scholar of Mexican American history, invites the community to a holiday book party and signing event at Alicia Salinas City of Alice Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 19 from 1 p.m. through 4 p.m.

Her first book, Grounds for Dreaming: Mexican Americans, Mexican Immigrants, and the California Farmworker Movement (published by Yale University Press), is a history of how Mexican American farmworkers and Mexican braceros organized for their rights and better working conditions in U.S. agriculture.

Flores graduated from Alice High School in 2001, earned her B.A. and Ph.D. degrees at Yale and Stanford University, and is now a history professor at Stony Brook University in New York.

Light refreshments will be provided and books will be sold for $30, cash or check accepted.
