Marisol Salazar, Communications Officer

Number of years with Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department

I have been at the sheriff's department for three years and a month.

Number of years of experience total. Where?

I have over three years with JWC.

What made you want to be in law enforcement?

I have always wanted to help people. Before I decided to work in law enforcement I worked in the medical field.

Does your family support your career choice?

My family is very supportive and proud. My parents and sisters offer great support. I am glad I can always depend on them to care for my daughter at any time due to my shift work.

What's the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of being a communications officer has been the countless times I have received calls from someone who wanted to thank the dispatcher and deputy that assisted them in their time of need.

What do you believe is the hardest part of your job? Why?

The hardest part of my job is when a child reports an altercation that they are witnessing first hand. We do everything in our power to send help whether it's medical or criminal. We hope our deputies get to their calls safely with little or no delay.
