Hortencia R. Gonzalez, 89, passed away on December 5, 2015 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born in Hebbronville, Texas on June 22, 1926 to Lorenzo and Inez Rios.

Hortencia was known to many as “Weya” and “Tencha”. She was a homemaker who loved to watch western shows and novelas while drinking her coffee. She also loved crochet, sewing and playing bingo. She loved taking care of her plants and spending time with her family as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo and Inez Rios; one brother, Domingo Rios; one grandson, Juan M. Gonzalez Jr.; one great granddaughter, Miriam L. Ramos.

She is survived by her four children, Juan M. (Benilde) Gonzalez from Dallas, Texas, Diana G. Zamora from New Braunfels, Texas, Imogene “Jean” G. (Ramiro) Ramos from Fort Worth, Texas and Evaristo “JR” (Sylvia) Gonzalez from Alice, Texas. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, Christine Collins, Lorenzo Gonzalez, Victor Gonzalez, Cynthia “Cindy” Barrera, Lisa Charles, Daniel V. Cano, Amy I. Gonzalez, Abel J. Gonzalez, Andrea J. Watkins, April M. Toledo, Briana G. Garza and Bianca I. Gonzalez; family friend and caretaker, Elva Gonzalez.

A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the New Collins Cemetery.
