Battling height and quickness, the Alice Coyotes did everything they could to hang with the Tuloso-Midway Warriors for as long as they could Tuesday night.

However, after chasing the Warriors and playing catch-up basketball for two quarters, it became to much. The Warriors pulled away in the second half to hand the Coyotes a 74-44 loss in the District 30-5A opener at Alice High School.

The Warriors benefited from a big second-half in which they outscored Alice, 26-15.

Alice managed to make a game of it most of the way, staying within 10 of the lead in the first half after Tuloso-Midway jumped out to a 27-11 first-quarter lead.

Nick Sendejo seven first-quarter points for the Coyotes and Michael Breckon scored five. Breckon scored seven in the second quarter.

Sendejo and Breckon were the only Alice players to end in double figures. They scored 12 each in the game.

The Coyotes matched the Warriors in the second quarter, but T-M's lead stayed at nine going into halftime.

Ryan Flores scored a game-high 22 points and Kameron Belford added 11. Jeremy Garcia had 10.
