Members of the Orange Grove Future Farmers of America Chapter traveled to Huntsville on Friday, Dec. 4 to compete in Texas FFA’s Leadership Career Development Events.

The Orange Grove Greenhand Creed, Job Interview, Senior Skills, Greenhand Quiz and Senior Quiz teams all qualified for the state competition by finishing first or second in one of the state’s 57 district competitions and first or second in one of ten area competitions. A total of 5,973 entries began the statewide-tournament in 13 different events which reflect classroom instruction in basic leadership skills.

Orange Grove FFA placed in the top 20 in the Greenhand Creed speaking contest. She was seventh in her heat of 10 teams at state, narrowly missing the finals. The year started with 689 Greenhand Creed speakers.

Orange Grove FFA placed in the top 20 in the Senior Skills contest. They were 6th in their heat of 10 teams, narrowly missing the finals. The year started with 361 Senior Skills teams.

Orange Grove FFA placed fifth in the Senior Quiz contest; with one individual placing in the Top Ten Individuals. The year started with 707 Senior Quiz teams.

The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA associations with a membership of more than 113,000 active FFA members. FFA programs teach skills in leadership, career development and personal growth. FFA gives students the opportunity to practically apply classroom knowledge to real-world experiences through local, state and national competitions.

Sam Houston State University has partnered with Texas FFA in hosting these competitions for 80 years.
