Liborio Thatcher Cadena, 83, a longtime resident of San Diego, Texas was called home on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at his residence after a long illness. He was born on April 26, 1932 to Juan I. Cadena and Maria Thatcher Cadena in Zapata, Texas. He served in the United States Army and upon returning attended Texas A&I University, Kingsville, Texas. In June 1960 he married the love of his life Antonia Lilia. He was a teacher and administrator for the San Diego Independent School District for 31 years. He was a local businessman and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was known for his kindness and sense of humor. He always seemed to make people laugh with his jokes.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Aurora Garcia and Maria Olga († Jose Amado) Hinojosa.

Liborio is survived by his wife of 55 years, Antonia Lilia Sandoval Cadena of San Diego, Texas; two sons, Ruperto (Olga) Cadena of San Diego, Texas; Juan A. (Amanda) Cadena of Pharr, Texas; two daughters, Rosalinda "Rosie" (Sam) Gutierrez of San Diego, Texas; Maria A. "Kiki" (Alan) Gonzalez of Alice, Texas; one brother, Ireneo († Evangelina) Cadena of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters, Josephina († Nicolas) Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas; Norma (Adan) Martinez of San Diego, Texas; brother-in-law, Israel Garcia of Laredo, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 2015 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Military Graveside Service and Interment will be held at San Diego Cemetery in San Diego, Texas.
