The Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1400 North Texas Blvd., will celebrate 100 years in ministry as a congregation on Sunday, October 18.

Immanuel was begun by a small number of German Lutherans meeting in Alice, Texas homes in 1913 with Rev. A. Kluge as the first pastor. The current church building was built in 1956 under the leadership of Pastor H.C. Gold.

According to its website, Immanuel has always been a "purpose-driven church" focused on worship, fellowship with other believers, education, service to others and sharing Christ with the world and the community.

Members, former members and friends are invited to the 10 a.m. service where Holy Communion will be celebrated. The sermon theme is “planted firmly..growing stronger..moving forward” with pastor Jim Craver leading the service. Sunday School for all ages is at 9 a.m.

Immediately following the service, a barbecue meal and remembrance time will be held in the fellowship hall.

Immanuel's upcoming events include Reformation Sunday on Oct. 25 to celebrate its Lutheran heritage. Holy Communion will be celebrated.
