On the final weekend before the District 30-5A meet, the Alice High School cross country program had its best showing of the season.

Alice was first in the boys division and third in the girls division of the Corpus Christi Miller Metro Cross Country Invitational Saturday at West Guth Park.

The boys were led by medal winners Eliseo Martinez and Matthew Lara. Martinez, a junior at Alice High School, placed third in the run with a time of 16:35. Lara, a sophomore, was ninth with a time of 16:58.

Derek Escobar was 12th with a time of 17:01 and Santos Alaniz was 15th with a time of 17:28. Omar Trevino had time of 17:46 to place 23rd. Alejandro Gonzalez was 44th, Aaren Perez was 47th, Matteo Karstedt was 65th and Jesse Medina was 70th.

Sophomore Hannah Martinez was third in the girls run with a time of 19:51 and Criselda Cruz, a sophomore, was fourth with a time of 20:04.

Jakki Barrera was 13th with a time of 21:29. Gabriela Saldivar was 23rd, Victoria Vicente was 29th, Janelle Castillo was 35th and Nadia Canales was 37th.

Alice’s next meet is the District 30-5A meet Friday morning at Momentum Campus of Texas A&M University of Corpus Christi. The varsity girls run at 9 a.m., followed by the varsity boys at 9:30 a.m. The junior varsity boys are on the course at 10 a.m. and the junior varsity girls run at 10:30 a.m. The freshman race begins at 11 a.m.
