Rene Valadez, 79, passed away October 10, 2015 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a short and courageous battle with a rare cancer. He was born January 28, 1936 in San Diego, Texas to Fermin and Natavidad Garcia Valadez. Rene graduated high school and attended a business school in San Antonio, Texas. He helped his father manage and operate the family store F.M. Valadez Grocery Store of Alice. He was the Director of the Indigent program for Jim Wells County until he retired. Rene was a faithful servant to the Lord and Savior a dedicated parish member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rene was a former 4th Degree Knights of Columbus of council 3169. He was a former board member of the R.E.A.L Inc.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Aurora V. Gonzalez; two brothers, Ruben and Romeo Valadez; two brothers-in-law, Ruben Gonzalez and Jose Saenz and one sister- in-law, Diana G. Valadez; his in laws, Reynaldo G. and Espernaza Munoz Palacios, and brother-in-law, Reynaldo Palacios, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years of marriage and 5 years of courtship for total of 65 years together as each other’s partners through the journey of life, Diana Palacios Valadez of Alice, Texas. Other survivors include one brother, Jose Luis Valadez of Alice, Texas and three sisters, Lamar V. (Leopoldo) Garcia, Paulina V. Saenz and Gloria V. Martinez all of Alice, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Delma Palacios of Alice and Gloria Valadez of San Antonio, Texas one uncle Jaime ( Berta) Garcia of San Diego . Nieces and nephews that loved him and will miss him and affectingly called him “Papi chere” are Anna (Mando) Salas of Alice, Texas, Leila (Mando) Narvaez of Agua Dulce, Texas, Annette (Gilbert) Martinez of Alice, Texas, Sally (Angel) Galvan of Alice, Texas, Ruben A. Gonzalez of Alice, Texas, Richard De Leon of Alice, Texas, Reynaldo Palacios III of Alice, Texas, Lorena (Martin) Hughes of Lacey, Washington, Gloria (Jorge) Rodriguez of Alice, Texas and several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Alice, Texas. Burial will follow at the San Diego City Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Christus Spohn Shoreline hospital for their professionalism and hospitality. Also special thanks to Father Pete Elizardo and Father Fernando Gamez and the whole Parish Community of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
