Alice Mayor Ike Ornelas and city councilmen proclaimed the Day of Pink and Domestic Violence Awareness Month at their meeting on Thursday night.
Friday, Oct. 23 is a day everyone in the city of Alice is urged to wear pink to support those who fought and continue to fight breast cancer.
Carmen Arias with Radiology Associates accepted the plaque of the proclamation and said it means a lot to the American Cancer Society.
"This is to show them that we support them in their fight and that they are not alone," Arias said.
She thanked the council and presented them with a t-shirt and pink ribbons.
Domestic Violence Awareness month was also proclaimed and the city was encouraged to wear purple through out the month of October.
The Women's Shelter accepted the proclamation and told the council the awareness month is to let the community know how much they are against the horrific crime.
