As part of Fire Prevention Week the San Diego Fire Department recently visited three schools to speak about the importance of smoke alarms and give safety tips.

On Thursday, students from Collins-Parr Elementary had a presentation about the tools and protective gear used by the department to fight fires and rescue people from homes or cars.

Students at El Paisano Head Start and Little Scholars Daycare were visited in Friday morning. The firefighters discussed the importance of not entering a burning home and on calling 9-1-1.

Students were able to use the water hoses used to extinguish fires. They received coloring books, firefighter hats and stickers.

El Paisano presented Fire Chief Matt Valdez with a poster made by students.
