Leonard “Punchy” Dixon, 93, passed away on Wednesday October 7, 2015 after being blessed with a long, joyous, active life to the end. He was born in Weatherford, Texas on July 28, 1922 into a loving family of 10 children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all his brothers, sisters and mother of his children Charlsie Dixon.

He is survived by his wife, Jo; children, Mike (Jimmie Nell), Pat (Marie), Jim, Betty, four grandchildren, Andy Phillips, Lori Holland (Bryan), Kevin Dixon (Janet), Caitlin Dixon . The Lord also blessed him with great grandchildren.

Punchy served his country in WW II in the Army Aircorp. He enjoyed serving as a boxer in the military as well as in the Golden Gloves, winning 47 out of 49 fights. Because of this he received the nickname “Punchy” which followed him the rest of his life.

He started his oilfield career at Weatherford Spring Co. in Weatherford, Texas which eventually became Weatherford International. Punchy was passionate about the oil field always demonstrating his strong work ethic which led him to eventually start his own business.

He was known to be very generous to his community, loved people, his work, horses and boxing and thoroughly enjoyed his friends and customers whom he faithfully served in the oil field. He always had a smile and kindness about him of which others took note. He faithfully attended services at River Hills Baptist Church. He was a great contender all of his life and lived life to the fullest.

Visitation will be at Sawyer George funeral home Sunday October 11, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will follow Monday at 10:30 a.m. at River Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to “Feed the Children” or “The Gideons West Camp, P.O. Box 260101, Corpus Christi, Texas 78426. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
