The traffic jam on top of the District 30-5A is beginning to reflect on the Alice Echo-News Journal’s High School Football Top 5.

Of the five spots on top of the Big School Top 5, three are from 30-5A. In this week’s Top 5, Calallen is No. 2. The Wildcats are 5-1 for the season and a perfect 4-0 in 30-5A. They took sole possession of the lead in the district by beating Victoria West, 41-24, Friday night at home. The Wildcats have Corpus Christi Miller Friday.

The Alice Coyotes had a bye Friday, but they moved up in the Top 5 thanks to a loss by former No. 3 Flour Bluff. The Hornets lost to Gregory-Portland, 38-34. last week. The Hornets ended up falling out off the Top 5 allowing Alice to move into the No. 3 spot. The Coyotes are 2-1 in 30-5A and 4-1 for the season. Alice has a district game on the road against Corpus Christi Moody.

Gregory-Portland moved into the No. 4 spot. The Wildcats beat the Hornets Friday. Gregory-Portland is 2-1 in 30-5A and 3-2 for the season. The Wildcats have a tough home game Friday against Victoria East.

Unbeaten Corpus Christi King leads the Top 5. The Mustangs are 5-0. They took on San Antonio Southwest Thursday night in Corpus Christi.

Corpus Christi Carroll is No. 5 in the Big School.
