The mayor of the City of Benavides' resignation letter was accepted Friday by the city council.
The city council gathered at the City Hall on Friday at 12 p.m. to officially accept Ernestina Gonzalez's resignation.
“I want to thank the residents of Benavides for giving me the opportunity and supporting me as mayor,” Gonzalez said. “I had to resign due to personal medical issues.”
Gonzalez would have been in office for five years in May.
No one was appointed as interim mayor for the city.
A special meeting will be called on Nov. 3 to appoint an interim mayor.
