The Alice Police Department has began to enforce the last phase of their StepWave Grant requirements.
As part of the StepWave Grant from the Texas Department of Transportation Alice Police Officers will be targeting areas down Texas Boulevard and Highway 44 between Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Johnson Street, said Lt. Hector Zertuche Jr.
The enforcement period ends on Sept. 7 on Labor Day.
“Officers will be looking for motorists who are speeding and for seat belt usage,” Lt. Zertuche said.
In 2014, 2,587 motor vehicle crashes in Texas which unrestrained vehicle occupants sustained fatal or serious injuries. Wearing seat belts keeps occupants from being ejected in a crash and increases the chance of surviving by 45 percent, according to Texas Department of Public Safety.
“We hope the public will comply to the laws to avoid the possibility of facing a citation. Remember to buckle up and have children restrained,” Lt. Zertuche stated.
