The Santa Rosa de Lima Church in Benavides had repairs just as they prepare to host the 22nd Annual Festival.

The renovation of the local Catholic church cost approximately $145,000. The floors, altar, windows reglazed, the restrooms, crying room have been worked on. The church will also have a new roof.

“The cost is being covered by the parish and by The John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation grant from the Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi,” said Father George Thomas, Pastor at Santa Rosa Lima Parish. “The project still has another month or so to have a compete renovation done.”

The church is inspired by the Spanish missions found along the California coast. Parishioners California Mission Revival architecture.

Traditional celebrations will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park located across the church. The festival features live bands such as Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, Robert Molina Jr. Band and Ernesto Cadena y Conjunto Impulso.

Mass will be held at 6 p.m.

Lots of food and drink booths, children's games and vendors will be on hand. Wrist bands will be sold for $10 for children six and up. Children 5 and under can play games and ride the train at no cost.

A prize bingo begins at 2 p.m. at the Parish Hall. There will also be a horse shoe tournament and a silent auction.

The event is free to the public however, no coolers are allowed. Organizers encourage individuals to bring their lawn chairs and join in the festivities.

All proceeds from the festival go to the church's maintenance and operating costs, salaries and charities.
