The Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department is hosting a fishing tournament to raise money for one of its own.
And now, they’re adding a contest for children.
The department is organizing the Ray Ramon Red & Trout Shootout for Sept. 19 at Marker 37 in Corpus Christi.
The entry fee per team is $400 and that includes teams of up to four anglers. They’re also $25 buy-ins for the biggest red and the biggest trout.
As part of the fundraiser, several items will be raffled including a 1911 pistol. Food will also be sold at the event.
Organizers recently added a Kids’ Fishing Derby. Registration for the derby is between 8 and 9 a.m. the day of the event. The young anglers will fish from the bank or a pier with an adult. Entry fee is $10 per child. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top finishers.
All proceeds will go to the medical expenses of Ray Ramon.
Ramon dedicated 29 years to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Ramon was a Texas Ranger assigned to South Texas. He retired from the Texas Rangers and joined the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department as chief deputy in 2009.
The event is being sponsored by L&F Distributors in Corpus Christi.
