It’s another beautiful week in the Rio Grande Valley!

I love hearing and seeing everyone enjoying their summer. I’ve seen many of you on trips to Chicago, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Costa Rica, Cozumel, Hawaii, and everywhere else in between.  I would like to hear what your favorite summer getaway was and why?  Email me  My little vacation included a trip to San Antonio and to Sea World. My favorite thing was watching my Mom and my nieces enjoying the One Ocean and Azul shows.

The RGV Food Bank held their Empty Bowls Mixer last Thursday at 2nd St. Bistro Bar & Market inside the DoubleTree Suites.  The event proceeds help support the food bank. Seen out at the mixer were Ruby Martinez;Andrea Cavazos Rodriguez; Yoli Gonzalez; Gabriela Nunnery; Martina Charles; Edna Gonzales Posada; Terri Drefke; Laura Valdez-Karam; Michelle Zamora; Connie Hernandez; Rosalinda Martinez; and many many more.  Empty Bowls 2015 will be held Tuesday, September 29th at Pharr Events Center.

Happy 36th anniversary to Frances & Fidencio Flores from last week.  Happy 38th anniversary to Raquel & Ken Baker also from last week.  Here’s to many more happy years together!

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic will host their Celebration of Heroes Fall Luncheon and Fashion Show on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the McAllen Convention Center.  This year’s community heroes include:  Ana Bergh; Carol Ann Dixon;Jenny Hollis; Anna & Bob Dunkin; Courtney & Steven Egan; Dr. Jenna Garza & Brandon Hausenfluck;Melissa & Tony Jalomo; Sarah Hinojosa; Frances & James McAllen; Marlee & Bud Payne; Rita K. & Glen Roney; and Maria Elena Useda.  These heroes will have the privilege of walking the runway with patients from Vannie E. Save the date:  7th Annual Mission Pink 5k Walk/Run for Breast Cancer Awareness will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Mission Regional Medical Center.  Last year over 3,200 people participated, so register early! for more information and registration costs.

Rose Salazar-Martinez celebrated yesterday.  Letye Bourbois and Erika Guajardo are celebrating today. Celebrating tomorrow Larry Delgado; Veronica Ocańa and Patrick Daniel. Friday birthdays include my little sweet niece Elena Klebahn; Gladys Cortez; Melissa Escobedo; and Sara MandelbaumBeer.  Finally, weekend wishes are going out to the Judith Benavides;  Stuart Gearhart; the lovely Evelyn Saenz;Shelby King; Susannah Trevino Garza; Marco Avendano; Alexsandra Martinez.
