The City of Freer held their 4th of July Freedom Festival with a parade, lots of music, food and fireworks on Saturday at the Duval Freer Airport.

The festival activities started at 10 a.m. with a parade through the middle of town, a few games of Bingo and a talent show for individuals of all ages.

The talent show consisted of three categories; elementary, teen and adult. The 13 contestants who participated sang and danced as the hot sun shined down. Two contestants from each category won a trophy and there was also a special Mayor's Choice Award.

The event was free to the public. The children enjoyed a water slide, a mechanical bull, rock climbing and other activities at no cost.

Music started at 6 p.m. with musical entertainment by headliners Los Palominos, Tropa F and Jaime Y Los Chamacos. Raffle tickets were sold for a dollar for a special meet and greet with musical guests. The winners photographed themselves with the bands to remember the highlight of the night.

The Freedom Festival was not complete without a firework show and the National Anthem sung by Zapata County Fair Queen Priscilla Elizondo.
