The San Diego Volunteer Fire Department is searching for dedicated men and women to join their team and help protect the community.

Individuals interested in participating must be 16 years of age or older.

“A 16 year old can't fight fire but they can help by getting tools we need while combating a fire,” said Asst. Fire Chief Juan Soliz.

All firefighters must learn safety and basic knowledge of equipment before fighting fires.

Members will get in-house training and certification through the department, Soliz stated.

“It's a learning experience for graduates and high school students who aren't sure about what they want to do,” he said.

The department currently has 12 members.
