Fortunately, some of the damage that we do with our sins can be corrected, or the damage is minimal. You may hurt the one you love and when you repent you may build an even better relationship than you had, because of that experience. But, unfortunately there are times when the damage that we do with our sins can never be repaired. These are the forgiven sins that carry the saddest consequences.

David committed adultery with another manís wife. To cover the sin, he had the man murdered. David repented of this terrible sin. He said, ďHave mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness; according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgression; and my sin is before me,Ē he pleads in (Psalms 51:1-3). Yes, tender hearted David, the man after Godís own heart regretted the sin he had committed, and he never spent another hour that it was not before his face. But he could not resurrect the honorable man whom he sent to his death. He could not restore the manís wife to him untarnished. He could not erase from the minds of the people the shame that he had brought upon his God. He was King, but David did not have the power to undo the damage he did that day.

Not only was there a lot of damage which was the natural consequence of this sin, but God also pronounced certain curses upon him because of this sin. These judgments were to be carried out even though David repented of this sin.

Thus saith the Lord, behold I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbor; and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.Ē

(2 Samuel 12:9-11) All this came to pass. His son, Absalom, tried to steal the kingdom from him, and degraded his wives. Oh, the sad consequences of the sin David committed with Bathsheba on that day!

If you suffer the consequences of forgiven sin, do not let it destroy you. Use it to learn from your mistakes and do not repeat the same mistake.
