The San Diego Lady Vaqueros’ trip to the Class 3A regional quarterfinals is the shortest road trip they’ll have this year.
The San Diego girls are playing Bishop Lady Badgers in a best-of-three game series in the Alice Lady Coyote Softball Complex. game 1 of the series is at 7 p.m. Friday. The series picks back up at 2 p.m. Saturday. If needed, a third game will follow.
The Lady Vaqueros beat the Lady Badgers in two of their three District 30-3A match ups this season. San Diego beat Bishop, 9-5 in March. They then beat the Lady Badgers 13-3 in early April. They lost their last meeting, 4-3, in mid-April.
San Diego advanced to the regional quarterfinals by beating George West in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday. On Friday, San Diego went into extra innings to win, 8-7. They came back and scored four late runs to down the Lady Longhorns, 6-1.
In Class 4A, the Orange Grove Lady Bulldogs are in the regional quarterfinals against Devine. The two teams are playing in a best-of-three playoff series in South San High School in San Antonio.
Game 1 of the series is at 7 p.m. Thursday. Game 2 is at 2 p.m. Saturday, and Game 3, if needed, will follow.
The Lady Eagles from Benavides High School are also in the area playoffs. They have a Class 2A series against Port Aransas at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. Game 1 of the series is at 6 p.m. Friday. The series continues on Saturday.
In the state baseball playoffs, the Freer Buckaroos are playing in the area round in Alice against state-ranked Falfurrias. The one-game playoff at 7 p.m. Friday at the Coyote Baseball Complex.
