Freer was in a roller coaster of a game to begin the state playoffs Thursday night in Alice.

When the dust finally settled in the Lady Coyote Softball Complex, the Taft Lady Greyhounds held a two-run edge and won, 8-6.

Freer freshman ace Renee Rodriguez was tagged with the loss for the Lady Buckaroos.

Taft continued the pressure on San Diego in the second game and won 10-7 Friday night. Taft is now moving on to face San Diego in the area round of the state playoffs.

San Diego sweeps Santa Rosa

The San Diego Lady Vaqueros made quick work of Santa Rosa in Game 1 of their best-of-three game series Thursday night.

Playing at home, the San Diego girls 10-run-ruled Santa Rosa in six innings, 11-1.

Zalayna Perez went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Kayla Benavides was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. She drew two walks and scored twice.

Marlena Martinez scattered four hits through six innings.

Behind three errors by Santa Rosa, San Diego won Game 2 of the series, 4-2, Saturday.
