Commissioner Margie Gonzalez met with City Manager Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, City Engineer Rudy Mora and Grant Writer Barbara Keeves on Wednesday to discuss a water grant she will be applying for in order to help extend water to residents who reside in English Acres and the K-Bar Ranch areas.

Gonzalez said the residents in that area have water wells that are shared, causing the water supply to run short.

"There up to five families sharing one well out there," she said. "I want to get city water to them so they can have their own water."

Gonzalez said she found a grant from Annex that will total $500,000 for a first-time water user. She is planning to apply for the grant after getting support from both the Jim Wells County and the City of Alice.

Gonzalez said an engineer is working on numbers for the project so the city and county can get an idea of the cost.
